No City Does Street Style Quite Like Paris

Let it be known that style stops for nothing — not even days upon days of pouring rain. So when weather conditions in Paris, the final stop on the international whirlwind known as Fashion Month, are, for want of a better word, dismal, dressing the part can be quite the challenge. (Reminder: It hailed at the Saint Laurent show which took place outside, in a courtyard.)

Considering how much the industry loves a good non-waterproof fabric (leather, faux-fur, snakeskin and suede), creating a look that's as practical as it is chic takes innovation, creativity, and some professional styling prowess. Is it an easy feat? No. But the street style savants in Paris, of course, make it look oh so simple.

From the coolest crew-neck (shout-out, Gucci!) and statement outerwear, to It bags that have the power to make even the simplest of outfits feel eye-catching, see how the Paris Fashion Week crowd turns plain and classic into too-cool-for-school.

If you're going to wear wide-leg velvet trousers on the wet streets of Paris, be sure to wear them with killer platform shoes.

For added warmth (because winter is still alive and well), layer a thin puffer underneath your winter coat like Vogue.com's fashion news director, Chioma Nnadi.

The most popular T-shirt of the season, in jumper form.

It's not easy to find stylish rain gear. This patent leather-looking poncho ticks all the boxes.

If you're going to get on board with the mini-bag trend, try one that will still fit the necessities.

Let the cuffs of your blouse peek out from underneath your coat.

Invest in a solid tan, brown, or even black trench. You won't regret it.

We'll just be over here wondering where we can find a scarf that imitates the upper half of a chunky sweater...

Khaki doesn't look so bad in maxi skirt form, does it?

We're huge fans of alternative shirting, especially when your button-up is half-blouse, half-sweater.

Sometimes, all you need is one bright pink pop of colour. Particularly when it's a fuchsia Loewe bag as seen on InStyle Germany fashion director, Jan-Michael Quammie, who wears hers with a Freya Dalsjø coat.

Yellow works, too. Fashion buyer Tiffany Hsu wears a white trench over a cream roll-neck with cut-off jeans, finished off with a bright yellow Loewe bag.

Pattern-clashing, pattern-mixing...call it whatever you want, but it looks damn good. Garage fashion editor Tati Cotliar mixes multicoloured checks.

Copy the catwalks and cinch your coat with a waist belt.

Vogue.com's fashion news director, Chioma Nnadi wears this look that we're calling monotactal – a head-to-toe look all in the same texture.

Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?
